ROBBIE WILLIAMS

Rob, born on the 13th of Febuuary 1974 in Stoke On Trent, was the final member to join the band. It required quite a commitment from Robbie, at the young age of 16. His acting ambitions had already won him a bit part on TV's Brookside. Dedicating himself to music hadn't been part of the plan........but such was the wave of optimism that he found carried along in the rush. Dad, Pete Conway, was a comedian which may account for the fact that Rob was the practical joker of the group. "We all wind each other up," he said, "but I tend to go that bit further, which is daft of me really." Rob and his Mum, Jan, have always been very close and she would later help him through his tough drink and drug abuse problems. Rob enjoyed 5 years of success with his four mates, Mark, Howard, Gary and Jason but in July 1995 it became clear Rob could no longer give Take That the long-term commitment they required. After legal problems Rob finally released a solo single, 'Freedom' the following summer. Freedom, a George Micheal cover and a "huge statement" reached no. 2 in the UK charts. Hits like 'Old before I die' and 'Lazy Days' followed and in December 1997, following his first solo tour, he realeased 'Angels', a song which has cemented a career for Robbie Williams for many years to come. 'Angels' saw his solo album, 'Life Thru A lens' shoot back into the charts, finally resting at no.1.
